BS IV norms axe 12

Bharat Stage IV emission norms that have become mandatory from April 1 have had 12 casualties. Maruti was the first to announce that it will not upgrade its entry level 800 model to meet BS IV norms and rest of the car manufacturers have just followed suit.
The cars joining the once-upon-a-time iconic car Maruti 800 are Octavia, Fabia (petrol), Tavera, Sumo Victa, Palio Stile, Ikon, Lancer, Pajero, Ambassador and Indica V2 that will not be sold in 13 cities across India. However, the ageing Hyundai Getz  will soon be discontinued completely.
For car makers, upgrading their existing models to meet BS IV norms meant additional costs, which they are unwilling to make considering the low sales volumes of these cars. So they have no option but to sell the older car models in the non-BS IV cities only. The cities upgrading to BS IV include Mumbai, Delhi/NCR, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Kanpur, Ahmedabad, Surat and Agra.
Cars that will be upgraded to BS IV will cost more now as car manufacturers plan to pass on additional cost directly to buyers. So expect a 1-2 percent hike in new car prices from April 1.
The BS IV after-effects don’t stop here. Oil companies which introduce BS IV-grade petrol and diesel in the notified cities will marginally hike fuel prices as well. Ultra-low sulphur petrol and diesel will get dearer by 0.50 paise and 0.26 paise respectively. For the BS IV cities, this will be the second hike in fuel prices in quick succession following the earlier one in February, after the Union Budget.
